Dan Coffin
Hello Everyone,
The time has come to stand together and send a message to the corporation that we will do whatever it takes to get a fair contract. Many of the older generation bargaining unit employees have moved on since 2004. There are a lot of new faces that don’t know what it takes to get a fair contract. Anyone hired after 1998 has never been involved in a real work stoppage here at at&t. Well, brace yourself because the wave is coming!
If you are not willing to stand up for yourself then do it for your family. Go home tonight and look at your spouse and your kids and then think about how they are going to survive on the wages and health care benefits that at&t wants to give you. How it will affect your families quality of life not knowing if you are going to have a job from one day to the next. It’s time to wake up!
at&t continues to avoid serious negotiations at the bargaining table. They are asking to decimate the current contract language that our founding brothers and sisters fought so hard to get. They have no respect for you as an employee or us as a union. It is their ultimate goal to divide and conquer local 1298 and give us a contract that is worth nothing more than a pile of crap.
We need to make sure that everyone, no matter how much seniority you have or what your job title is, sticks together over the next few months. It is imperative that we all do our share to ensure the bargaining team has the upper hand at the negotiation table. None of us want to go on strike so we need to do everything in our power to make sure that we do so only as a last resort.
Ask your local stewards, Chief Stewards or Business Agents what you can do to get involved. Not being informed is not an option at this point. Daily voicemails go out explaining bargaining progress, mobilization activities and potential work stoppage news. Make sure you listen to your union voicemails and be sure to check the union web site for daily updates. Ignorance is not bliss when it concerns your job!
