John Michael Ursini, Jr. of Bronx New York, passed away February 17, 2022 in the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He is the beloved husband of Delois Suggs Ursini. They were blessed to have enjoyed a loving and supportive relationship for 21 years. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on June 23, 1954, he is the son of the late John Michael Sr. and Helen Porto Ursini.

John was a proud United States Navy Veteran. He received honors for his service and was named Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Veteran’s Hospital, after leaving the military service. He served as a Union Steward CWA 1298 while working for the former SNET in the Treasury Department and Yellow Pages Department. He was employed at AT&T for many years.

Following his retirement, he enjoyed a second career in real estate. John had a passion for cooking; he was devoted to his family and friends; and enjoyed coaching, referring, and umpiring youth baseball and basketball for several years in New Haven and New York. John, always interested in growth and knowledge, went back to college later in his adult life to earn his Master’s Degree in Business. Administration.

John was well loved by everyone and greatly enjoyed his New York community, residing at Fordham Hill Oval, where he played an important role and served on the Fordham Hill Oval Board of Directors, after making Bronx, New York his home over two decades ago.

Besides his wife, Delois, John is survived by his sons Christopher (Shea) Ursini, and Omar ( Carla) Ursini, sisters Geraldine Curulli, Bernadette (Ken) Davis, and Rosalie (Ursini) Hylwa. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and loving friends.

God bless our sweet man. He will be truly missed but we are finding peace knowing he is in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. Relatives and friends may visit with John’s family from 9:00AM until the time of service. We request everyone to please wear masks due to continued Covid concerns. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
