A Message from President Dave Weidlich

Many of you received an NLRB posting today by email from Frontier Labor Relations. This case began when an incident caught the attention of CWA Local 1298 members. A supervisor within our RSS work group took it upon themselves to issue a directive, forbidding employees from discussing their wages—an action that blatantly disregarded the fundamental rights enshrined by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Sherri Brooks-Jefferson, Chief Steward of C&M, took swift action and filed a charge against Frontier.

The parties reached a settlement with a decisive ruling in favor of CWA Local 1298. This win signifies the importance of standing up for what is right, regardless of the challenges

posed. The case rose to such a high level of importance based on the principles of transparency, fairness, and the right to free expression within the workplace.

As the case progressed, it reflected a much larger pattern of behavior that Frontier Communications exhibited and continues to exhibit towards its workforce. The company’s blatant use of contractors, mis-management of the business, and the offer of voluntary buyouts to members demonstrates a total disregard for the value of a committed and empowered workforce.

Frontier Communications was ordered to send out a posting as a result of this victory, serving as a reminder that the fight for workers' rights is never in vain. This victory achieved by CWA Local 1298 should make us all remember that the struggle for workers' rights is an ongoing battle, and that unity is the most important and strongest tool we have.
